2011 & Beyond
As of 2010 the Movember Foundation created "networks". These are collections of teams, and in our case, we (Nico and Don) started the City of Remo network to keep the local teams in contact and working towards a common goal.
2010 was a huge success despite our efforts. We had a community goal of $25,000 and by the end we'd raised over $30,000 - an incredible accomplishment. Turns out, that this kind of thing is a huge undertaking and trying to coordinate events at the network level doesn't work. Sure we started City of Remo but we're just guys. We don't work for the foundation and we put our lives on hold for two months (or more) every year to run our little part of this global effort.
In the beginning City of Remo was an excuse to grow moustaches with our friends. (Mission accomplished!) Over the years it grew and we were excited to see a portion of the city come together. But along the way it changed ... it became about us in some way and that isn't what Movember should be. Movember is men taking charge of their own health. Too many men wait around until something is seriously wrong before they go see a doctor. We see the local Movember community in the same light - don't wait around for someone to do something - get out there and do it!
That said, we realize the City of Remo name has some value and we're happy to list events and blog posts on this site. If you've started a team and you want to take advantage of that just contact us (see the bottom of this page.) Want to take over? We can talk about that too. Have fun growing thos mos!
